Looking to Adopt? Join our Adoption Contact List!
One of the best problems for a rescue to have is more demand for adoptions than dogs available. We're thrilled to often have this "problem." That said, we do need and appreciate those eagerly waiting for a poodle rescue to love and are glad to add you to our Adoption Contact List. Thank you for interest and support of poodle rescue; we are thrilled you're considering adoption!
Some things to note:
Rescue poodles often come needing a little extra patience and understanding. Though not always so, these are often "imperfect specimens;" they are sometimes someone's failures, rejects, or targets for abuse. Frequently they have histories to overcome, behavioral struggles to continue working through, or require ongoing medical care. We don't mean to scare anyone away from rescue--we've placed some truly fabulous and remarkable poodles--; but, if you are looking for a 2 year old, standard poodle, who's fully trained, has perfect manners, loves everyone, has low energy, doesn't chase cats, doesn't bark, is well structured and in perfect health...you're welcome to join our Adoption Contact List but know it may be a very, very long wait to find.
One of the best ways to support rescue is to support businesses on the front lines of keeping poodles from becoming rescues, i.e. responsible breeders. A responsible breeder raises dogs disinclined to develop the issues that commonly create rescue scenarios, finds quality homes for all their dogs, and assists in rehoming any of their dogs should a situation ever warrant. A poodle from a reputable breeder ending up in a rescue is exceedingly rare. These breeders deserve our support. In our area, please check out Avalon (Standard) Poodles of Darlington, WI (http://avalonpoodles.tripod.com/) for an example of such a breeder.
If you are not willing to complete a lengthy application, divulge personal information, provide references, and accept a homevisit, we are not the organization for you. We do not adopt without reference checks and a homevisit.

What happens next? You'll receive an email when a poodle becomes available; it could be a while--we appreciate your patience. That email will include information about the available poodle. If you are not interested, do nothing; you will be contacted again when the next poodle becomes available. If you are interested, you should reply quickly letting us know of your interest. A link will be provided to complete an application which will enter you into consideration for placement with that poodle. Typically, several applications are received. Should yours not be selected, you will remain on our waiting list for the next poodle.
We encourage you to also be checking Petfinder.com, Adopt.com, your local Craigs list, and to consider purchasing a puppy from a reputable breeder.
